Prof. Nguyen Linh Trung

Nguyen Linh Trung received the B.Eng. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, both from Queensland University of Technology, Australia, in 1998 and 2005 respectively. Since 2006, he has been with VNU University of Engineering and Technology – a member university under Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU). From 2009 to 2013 he served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, from 2013 to 2014 as Director of the Department of Academic Affairs, from 2017 to 2024 as Director of the Advanced Institute of Engineering and Technology. He became Associate Professor of Electronics in 2012 and Full Professor of Electronics in 2025, both at VNU.

His research interests lie in signal processing theory and methods, in particular time-frequency analysis, signal separation, compressed sensing, subspace and tensor tracking, system identification, complex systems, and machine learning. He is also interested in applications of signal processing in telecommunications and medicine. In telecommunications, they include channel estimation, synchronization, physical layer security, and cybersecurity. In medicine, they include analysis and processing of brain signals and images, applying artificial intelligence models in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. He has co-authored three books, more than 150 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, and book chapters, and has supervised 10 Ph.D. students.

Dr. Trung is a Senior member of the IEEE, currently serves as Chair of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Vietnam Chapter and the Asia-Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association (APSIPA) Vietnam Chapter. He was General Chair of the 2023 IEEE Statistical Signal Processing Workshop. Since 2016, he has been an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, and since 2024, a Guest Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium.
