Dr. Stijn Denissen and Prof. Guy Nagels Visit AVITECH in December 2025

In early December 2025, Prof. Dr. Guy Nagels and Dr. Stijn Denissen visited AVITECH at VNU University of Engineering and Technology in Hanoi. The visit aimed to discuss the development and implementation of a Federated Learning system to support collaborative research between institutions.

During their visit, the two researchers worked with members of AVITECH to plan the setup and maintenance of the federated learning infrastructure. This system is expected to enable research collaboration while keeping sensitive data securely stored at each institution.

They also visited the Neurology Institute – Bach Mai Hospital, where they organized a workshop introducing the Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT). The test is widely used in Western countries, particularly in Belgium, to assess cognitive function. The workshop attracted strong interest from doctors at the institute.

In addition, the visiting researchers had the opportunity to discuss clinical examination and diagnosis practices with doctors at Bach Mai Hospital and learn more about medical practice in Vietnam.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation between researchers and clinicians. It also marked an important step toward establishing the technical infrastructure needed for future federated learning studies and international research collaboration.
