Congratulations to Research Group Leader Nguyen Linh Trung on Achieving the Title of Professor in 2025

On November 19, 2025, the Chairman of the National Council for Professorship Titles issued Decision No. 79/QĐ-HĐGSNN recognizing individuals who met the national standards for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor in 2025.

With outstanding achievements in scientific research and education, Prof. Nguyen Linh Trung has been honored to be recognized as meeting the national standards for the title of Professor in the 2025 evaluation round.

Newly appointed Prof. Nguyen Linh Trung (Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications) obtained his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. Since 2006, he has been working at the VNU University of Engineering and Technology (VNU-UET). He was awarded the title of Associate Professor in Electronics in 2012 and has held several key administrative positions, including Deputy Head of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications (2009–2013), Director of Academic Affairs (2013–2014), and Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Engineering and Technology (AVITECH) from 2017 to 2024.

In research, Prof. Nguyen Linh Trung focuses on signal processing theory and methods, including time–frequency analysis, signal separation, compressed sensing, subspace and tensor tracking, system identification, and machine learning. He is also profoundly engaged in applying signal processing techniques to telecommunications and medicine. In telecommunications, his work covers channel estimation, physical layer security, and cybersecurity. In medicine, he studies signal and neuroimaging processing for brain diagnostics, applying artificial intelligence to detect and treat neurological disorders such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. He is the co-author of two textbooks, a monograph, and over 150 scientific papers and book chapters.

In education, Prof. Trung teaches courses in mathematical methods in engineering, signal processing, telecommunications, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence. He has successfully supervised ten PhD students in Vietnam and abroad. Alongside his academic achievements, Prof. Trung has received numerous honors and awards, including the VNU Outstanding Young Researcher (2011 and 2012), VNU Emulation Fighter (2021–2023), and Certificates of Merit from the President of VNU (2013, 2015, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025).

Currently, Prof. Trung, together with colleagues and students at VNU-UET, is actively collaborating with Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB), the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (VNU), and the Neurology Center of Bach Mai Hospital to develop a federated learning network that connects several European medical institutions with Bach Mai Hospital. This initiative aims to advance research in neuroscience and digital medicine.
